I'm finally speechless after reading that. Sad on many levels.

I thought there were no new lows for Gannett to hit.

    Clearly I was wrong.

I would like to know more about the apartment. Was he staying there free?

And is Indiana the only state with no laws governing evictions?

Just when you think Gannett couldn't lower the bar any further, out come the shovels and backhoes.

    Again.

He's moved into a hotel in the latest blog update.

Accomodations aside, I hope he has a friend or someone that can check in on his mental health.

The style of the writing suggests someone who might be having a manic episode right now. I hope he's OK. These are already stressful times even without the added stress of unemployment.

    I shouldn't say this...

But given the inhumane way these companies operate, specifically Gatehouse, I'm surprised a disgruntled, displaced journalist hasn't gone postal.

Not to be a dick but like the NYT guy asked him, what is his plan?

I've thought of that, but what I deduced is probably almost all of the journalists laid off and treated badly love the work so much they don't think that way. They've seen layoffs, heard of layoffs and work their ass off until the day they get laid off. When they get laid off, they don't even consider going postal because they have gotten so little positive affirmation in the past (low pay, bad grades on evaluations, furloughs, generally told they are meh by superiors) that they just pack up and leave. It's not a profession that attracts postal people. Just hard workers with low self esteem who accept the bad news and make the best of it. They are top quality people so if they hang in there they are fine.

This story sucks on multiple levels. Part of it is Gannett being Gannett, of course. But the EE wrote that he worked virtually every minute for 10 months and never looked for a place (in a college town where he'd have had no problem, I'm sure). Was he planning on living in the building indefinitely? Just sounds so strange, in addition to sad.
