Lots of time for things to get worse again, particularly since we've cut back on doing what worked.

Nice piece. I've met him several times over the decades at Pac-10/12 press events. Good guy. Once while sitting around waiting for the Microville Tech coach to show up a bunch of us were BSing about various job openings. He once asked me why I would ever consider leaving Microville for Pocatello, where there was a job opening that would have been a promotion. I took his advice and didn't follow up.

    That was well done.

    This line made me laugh:
"And it's one, two, three breaths we're O-U-T at the old ball game."

Most teams (major league or major college) will cut back press coverage to bare minimums -- pool reporters and team affiliated media.

They're gonna want every seat to be a paying customer.

Locker room access is going away. Press boxes will be downsized (sorry Coliseum, after that reconstruction). It's a completely new ballgame when (if?) this reopens.

Experts say it takes 40 days or so for a new habit to become routine - or to break an old habit. Given the downtime from watching sports and playing sports it will be interesting to see how people reengage with their sports of choice. Maybe they've found they enjoy riding a bike more than sitting in front of a TV for two hours, or going for a hike instead of going to a ballgame. I remember after the baseball strike in the '90s I stopped caring so much about baseball. I began to no longer remember all the names of the various managers, I'd look at the ASG ballots and wonder who these people were. And I'd also say a ballplayer hasn't come along in a while who has captured my interest like a Jeter, or Bonds since.

ROOT Sports has been playing old Seattle Mariner playoff games (obviously there haven't been any recent ones).

That made me realize I could name more players on the 1995 Mariners than I could the current team — by far. And I wasn't even living in the Pacific Northwest back then.
