There’s no event information about the Wednesday, May 27, race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, so let me overthink a few things.

That race replaces Sears Point on the schedule, which costs the Cup Series a road-course date. That race is listed at 500 kilometers rather than miles (it comes in at about 310 miles), and the road-course circuit has been enormously popular with fans, so …

Are we about to get the Roval on prime-time TV?

 

And Bruton owns both tracks.

I haven’t watched either of the roval races. How is the actual racing?

Updates to the Cup Series schedule after Charlotte:

• Bristol, Food City 500, May 31
• Atlanta, QuikTrip 500, June 7
• Martinsville, Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500, June 10 (yep, that’s a Wednesday night)
• Homestead-Miami, Dixie Vodka 400, June 14
• Talladega, Geico 500, June 21

All mid-afternoon EDT starts except for the Wednesday night show at Martinsville, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Most of those look like good days to wear shorts.

 

Oh, and some of you may be interested in Sunday’s starting lineup, which was set by random draw last night.

 

Worth noting that all five were tracks that had races postponed during the hiatus, so this stretch will make them whole.
They canceled/postponed the races at Kansas and Michigan, to go along with the previous races stripped from Chicago, Richmond and Sonoma.
The doubleheader at Pocono is supposed to be the weekend after Talladega, but that's not looking real good at the moment given the climate in Pennsylvania.

 

The guess here is "doubtful."

If they run the 600 on a Sunday night, and the next race is Wednesday night, that leaves precious little time to reconfigure the facility. Additionally, are the lights that light up the oval bright enough to light up the parts of the infield that the Roval uses?

But I've been wrong before ...

 

This draw does not look all that random to me.

 

They did it by segmenting the points standings, with the top 12 first and the noncharter teams last.
