As an aside, a day does not go by, it seems, that I'm not showing someone how to use their CalFresh (food stamps) card. And Trump wants to cut that too.

 

In a functional republic, this sort of thing would result in investigations, resignations and convictions. This alone would also sink any attempt at re-election. Alas, this is a failed state.

Screwing up the re-open is going to make people forget the bungling of the pandemic. There will be fights where righties take joy out of yanking people's facemasks off, businesses that shutter permanently because consumers aren't ready in large enough numbers to make it profitable, I don't think people realize the worst of it is ahead.

 

Given that we as a nation believe "long-term thinking" = the next quarter, I sadly think you're right about this.

 

The transgressive stuff is already happening here. As for the small businesses, many of us are doing our best to support them, but I still wonder if the grassroots effort to keep them alive will be enough.
