    There's no way to force that to happen. It has to be organic. With big tech companies going remote, they may spur others to do the same and people start moving to other places because now they no longer have a drive and it's safer. Then again, Millennial hipsters seem to love "living near where the action is" so we'll see. That and denser housing means less land we need to develop, so who knows.

    What does decentralizing the population even mean? The empty spaces on the globe, even the ones here in the U.S., exist mostly because it's very hard to impossible for human beings to live in them. They didn't name it Death Valley to keep the tourists away from an undiscovered paradise. Also, it doesn't come any more urban than Hong Kong or Singapore, which kept the virus under control quite well.

    And how does it jibe with the philosophy of people advocating to preserve undeveloped land? If you "decentralize" them out of cities, you're really talking about unlimited urban sprawl. Those people have to live somewhere.
