All of the old political norms are gone. All of them. If Biden and all Democrats don't mount their campaigns as if they are competing against a hostile Quisling regime installed by an enemy of our nation, then they are doing all Americans a disservice and the nation gets the fate it deserves.

    Frontline narrator:

"By the end of June 2020, Mike Pence began preparing to take the oath of office for President of the United States when it became obvious Donald Trump had been slowly poisoning himself with anti-malaria medication."

Dr. Cavuto is consistent with his Fox News klan is this respect: He's claiming medical expertise that he doesn't have.

Asked if the White House doctor recommended that, Trump responded, "no."
"I asked him what do you think, he said, 'Well if you'd like it,' " the President told reporters.

One of these two things is almost certainly true:
    1) Trump is lying about the doctor's comments and has falsely accused him of malpractice.
    2) The doctor has joined a long line of pathetic sycophants who have chosen appeasement of a madman over professional responsibility.

If the first is true, the doctor is in an impossible position. He has been defamed, but he can't do anything about it without violating privilege. Right?

He's been accused of something that could cost him his license. He could certainly deny it to whatever board regulates doctors in DC. Those hearings are always real private. But the odds Trump is taking this medicine are very very long.

It's true! The election directly after his last term nearly featured Bernie Sanders - an old white crank from Vermont, way left of Obama - capturing the Democratic nomination. Obama's own party was looking for a fight - a big one - after he left, because, if there's one Obama wasn't going to do in office, it was get in the kind of fight that might have left him being what his opponents already accused him of being. He remained above the fray to the end, didn't fight for Garland, made no particular fight for gun control - after all, nothing happened - because the messiness of governance was not his thing.

He didn't disappoint people because he was too radical. Some in his administration were, and some of his presidential orders or interpretations may have been, but he wasn't. And since Obama's really smart, I think of course he knew what he was doing. The one thing he wasn't going to be was a prick about anything. And, he wasn't.

America responded by, in terms of a majority, wanting either a left-leaning crank or an asshole sorta from the right in the White House. More than 50% of America, in 2016, wanted one of those two guys coming out of the primaries. It was commentary the guy who had just left.

And damn straight a lot of the national media loved him for that above-the-fray approach. As did much of the world, which likes framing America as a beacon of institutional acquiescence to whatever the hell the world wants from it.
