I think that it helps him activate his base and that it gains him voters from the crowd that is tut-tutting the looting. This is the payoff for his years of "very fine people", of cultivating racists, especially racist cops, of dog whistling, of blaming the media. The question is does it also send out the people who are revulsed in sufficient numbers to sweep him out of office.

 

Bow guy was also caught on video earlier in the day waving a Bowie knife and challenging the crowd. After he used the bow and got the shit kicked out of him (and his car burned) by a crowd that looked more than half white, he popped up on the news with cuts on his face claiming to have been beaten by two black guys. I understand that he was eventually arrested.

Every time I see someone recording the events of the last few days on their phones, I'm reminded of the participant in the post-Stanley Cup riots in Vancouver who bragged about what he did on his Facebook page, only to receive a visit later from the cops.

 

Here’s a crazy idea: maybe we could start hiring cops based on their intelligence rather than the ability to get barked at by a fucking commanding officer for a year or so.
