I agree. I think she's excellent. She has great presence.

Whitlock's biggest problem might be the timing.

The pandemic is crushing business, and the TV stations are not exempt. We don't know how or if advertising dollars will rebound. It's not an easy time to negotiate, particularly if your employer does not deem you essential.

I was surprised about Anderson. It seemed by her assignments and profile that ESPN liked her. Could be a negotiation thing, too.

That's very true on the TV stations. Our ratings are up 30-35% from a year ago. That's great, right? Except many businesses are pulling back on advertising so we have to charge the same price as we did a year ago. There are usually about 160-200 "anchor jobs" always available in local TV news -- from big markets and tiny markets. (Note: this doesn't count the "hidden jobs" in big markets that only the agents know about). Right now, it's about 70 and they're almost all medium/small markets.

It's a terrible time to negotiate in broadcasting unless you move the needle and have a following that WILL follow you.

I'm here for three more years (hopefully) but, after that, I'm unsure what the next step will be. I don't really want to stay here but I can't imagine the pay will be THAT much greater elsewhere by 2023.

Dale Bye hired Whitlock. Dinn Mann hired Poz.

My recollection was the next day on the Sports reporters, that he said the Jets could kick a fg on 3rd down, and if they missed, could kick again on 4th down.

Then again, my memory isnt the greatest.

Timing...and people might not like him that much. He's not Bill Simmons. For as much backlash as Bill Simmons got he still had that loyal fanbase that would listen to them podcasts with his Dad and his old college roommate, etc., and eat up that content. Whitlock doesn't have that and the other few times he tried to do something on his own it didn't last very long. He reminds me a little of Francesa.

I guess Anderson and ESPN had been apart for a while. She should be able to find another NFL job though. She can get people to talk to her that won't talk to anybody else.

Mikey Fatcessa definitely had a similar following to Simmons. Maybe not anymore, as he's become more
tired and disgruntled. He's always been pompous, but used to be a bit jovial at times, especially when he was with Russo.

One thing about Simmons and Francesca. Simmons still gets the good interviews. Francesca used to. On a random day, he'd get a couple of NY GMs, a star player or two, and an out of town get No longer of course.

I think Mike and the Mad Dog had the really big following...but Mike alone doesn't have the same appeal without Russo. Didn't Francesa try to get some money through an app or something?

    That's true.

Not a big Fatsessa fan, but he was more of the lead guy when it was him and Russo. Russo definitely wan't a sidekick,
but the show was more Mike. Russo has fared better since they split. But think a big reason is Mike is past his prime,
    tired and bitter.

I gave up on Whitlock as a journalist when he wrote an NFL playoff preview column and said that Drew Brees threw to many interceptions for the Saints to win. And explained that the white announcers would never tell you that about Brees.

When Whitlock wrote that column Brees held the record for most consecutive passes thrown in the playoffs without an interception. And it was an active record.
