Because it is utterly irrelevant to what happened to him and would make it look like it in some sense justifies his murder. If you are less likely to trust CNN because this hasn’t been mentioned then you already are less likely to trust CNN.

This was recorded in New York City in 2000. Bruce wrote it after the police shooting death of Amadou Diallo. The police in msg turned their back on the stage. Not heard on this recording, Bruce said “we need some quiet” to stop the stirring in the arena before the song, letting everyone know he felt it was important (and also because police in the arena were turning their backs on the stage - the pba in New York had called for a boycott of his shows at that time).
Still happening now, but like how quickly America changed concerning gay marriage, public opinion in this area has turned to the left.

Cops in Asheville busted up a medic tent, stabbing water and milk bottles and smashing granola bars and tampons.
They said they were looking for explosives.

Bringing it up does look like you're trying to excuse it. Why is it necessary to dig through the victim's past?

George Floyd's criminal record is irrelevant to his killing.

George Floyd's criminal record is relevant to his biography.

““Late for lunch“ should be a book about the republicans in the senate” - Willie guist just now on msnbc after showing clips of the msnbc reporter asking senators what they think of the president’s clearing of the park and also about the general’s response to it. Only a few (murkowski, Romney) have actually responded. Of course McConnell turtled, and of course trump tweeted at murkowski.
    Senators, we’re coming for you.

People do use it to justify his killing.

    That's why it's irrelevant.

    Sorry.

    It's two separate things.

Certain people are always going to misuse the truth. In this case bloodthirsty racist conservatives will say "See? He was no angel!"

They were going to say that anyway, because they're bloodthirsty racist conservatives.

Biography, no less than journalism, requires a commitment to the facts, wherever they lead.
