If baseball comes back — far from a sure thing — regular-season tv ratings will be great. But once people realize what a joke a 50-game season and a 22-team playoff format are, they will tune out. They’ll realize that this is an anomaly that history will disregard and disdain.

    The 2019 Nationals decidedly agree.

I'm frankly glad for the potential to a reset to our country's fascination with sports and a redistribution of sports $$ to other things.

50 yrs from now are we going to be proud that the highest paid State or even ANY Federal Employee is a football coach (Saban? or Swinney?)? Think about that.

As Eastwood says from his lawn chair in El Camino, "that's ridiculous."

Nah. The US is the only country in which intercollegiate sports are culturally significant and revenue-drivers. Too much to lose.
Way, way too many schools in which football in particular is the institutional identity.
Every state -- Trumpist or not -- has decided it's just too hard to manage the virus and they're going to re-open even though very few have met conditions for safe return to normalcy.
