I mean, it is fucking nuts that Halliburton stock is going up, to cherry pick one example. They literally laid off a thousand employees last month.

How much of the stock gains are simple algorithmic mechanics? I noticed some the "lowest performing" businesses were grocers and pharmacies who have been busy.

That’s probably why it’s going up.

    Revenues do not equal profits.

Stock price could go up as labor costs go down because downstream profit potential is increased. I could envision where people are thinking that as the market recovers, the institutional labor structure has changed and they would be more profitable later.

I partially agree with Ragu. Stocks are going up in part because there's no other security offering any other return worth mentioning. It is true the Fed has thrown money at the problem. It's also true that Wall St. loves the Fed throwing money at the problem, and that Congress does it too. These guys are only conservative in that they don't like to pay taxes on their own money. But a lot of it is belief/faith that 1. The economy will bounce back just as fast as it crashed and 2. A coronavirus vaccine will be widely available sometime in the next 12 months. Should either of those beliefs not come to pass, we could see another collapse of stock prices as we did in February-March.
