President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

Y’know, if you look at the word “stooped,” it can be pronounced like “stupid.”

 

I don't care if it's Booker or McGrath, but if the KY Dems screw around and split the vote and let McConnell off the hook I'm gonna be pissed.

 

The best move would have been to have a non-controversial speaker — a successful alumnus who has no overt political leanings, perhaps. Someone worthy of one of the most momentous days in the lives of those being celebrated at a graduation. Choosing a speaker with no discernible accomplishments in life was a dumb idea that should have been nuked at the first opportunity.

 

How will they split the vote? Won't one be the nominee? Is the other going to run as an independent if the lose the primary?

These days, I think it's best to avoid politicians in general for commencement speeches. Half of your constituency will hate you for the choice. No matter who it is. So they shouldn't have reached out to any Trump. But once they did, I wonder if they should have just put up with the backlash.
Wichita State is in a precarious position. It's a suitcase college with a 47% six-year graduation rate and no national reputation. When donors like the Koch Bros come along, they're under tremendous pressure to play ball because they don't have alumni with that kind of cash or inclination to give and make up the difference if the big boys take their cash in a huff.
Nor can they find a famous apolitical speaker in their general constituency with great ease.
They've already named the basketball arena after one of the Kochs. How bad could it have been to keep the Ivanka speech? Not like she was gonna be on campus.
From the story, it sounds like the corporatist/Koch crowd has already been marching with Trumpist Tiki torches to get him whacked because he might think there's more to college than learning how to make an elevator pitch that will fail within six months of initial acceptance. He might think that the libruhl arts are worth pursuing. Damn him.

Biden was on Trevor Noah's show this evening. He was really good. At the 7:41 mark of the second clip, Noah asks him straight up, what if Trump doesn't leave. Biden was pretty clear about what he expects to happen if Trump tries:

 

Unless Booker loses and the liberal wing refuses to vote for McGrath.
