President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

They are in Alabama. Local governments, in response to the desires of their citizens, have removed a number of these statues, typically at night with a minimum of fuss about it. We still have a racist Republican state government which has dragged its heels and passed laws intended to make it difficult and expensive to remove them, but the events of the last few weeks have largely overtaken those. The state AG is still playing games with the issue, doing things like enforcing the fine for taking down the monuments on the City of Birmingham while turning a blind eye to their removal in Mobile and at UAT.

Frankly, I have found it remarkable how quiet the process has been. There were loud BLM protestors on the issue before they were removed, and there are loud outcries from racists and demi-racists on Facebook, but on the whole it has happened without much drama here.

 

Fuck that. Just ignore them like Trump’s people did and say that Obama can do anything he wants because he’s president. Just like Trump did.

 

The first round of statue tear-downs didn't prevent a murder in Minneapolis, is one point.

I would argue I am listening to the greater need in looking past periodic, symbolic displays. But perhaps they're as important as you tell me they are.

 

No. 1 is so infuriating. Asa! (as he puts on his campaign signs) laid out all these benchmarks to move into Phase I, II and III of reopening. Arkansas never hit the Phase I benchmarks, but we move into Phase II on Monday. And even as he was announcing expanding reopening he said "We're not out of the woods, we're in the heart of the woods."

 

If you were a black citizen forced to walk back and forth past such statues to do your business at City Hall, perhaps the light would dawn.

Statues don't murder people, police do.

 

Who doesn't care that the coronavirus is killing a thousand Americans every day? This guy:

Submitted with the appropriate caveats:
1) Most cities and jurisdictions would love to have the numbers that Tulsa County and Oklahoma have.
2) Can't find testing data on the county level so it's hard to tell if there's actual increase of spread.

It's interesting that Tulsa County, site of next week's klan rally, is now a hotspot according to the NYT. On pace for more 930 positive tests this month after recording a total of 998 through May 31. Testing appears to be up about 5% statewide from May to June. Tulsa County has 16.4% of the state's population but accounts for 29% of state's positive tests this month.
