Ending segregation didn't stop murder or racism by itself, either. But that doesn't mean segregation should have remained the law of the land.
A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. None of these statue removals or other cancellations that Trumpists decry will have an immediate impact individually. Collectively, they can send a message.
The larger goals and the smaller actions are not mutually exclusive. The statue removals took, in some cases, a matter of hours. In other cases, they will take longer. But removing statues won't get in the way of larger progress if those who value the progress are in charge.
There's nothing preventing Trumpists from creating their own private museums glorifying traitors who fought against the United States of America in order to protect an economic system built on human bondage. If you want to visit those museums one day, knock yourself out.

When I said I was good with renaming the bases and tearing down the statues, I meant that. Next time I’ll write three paragraphs about why, and then say I hope there’s more to it than that. I’ve learned my lesson.

Earhardt was one of the few female Foxies to defend Ailes.

Oh my God, Shelley would have loved the Trumps.

He more than Kerouac was the spirit animal of the beat movement.

Another (like Melville) who did not rise to fame in his own lifetime.

And died young, like Keats and other Romantics.

Yet somehow Sam Nunberg is fucking famous.

We lose Keats at age 25 and we get Mitchie for a hundred years.

Doesn't seem quite fair, does it.

Despite the fact that no impeached president had ever previously ran for reelection, it seems like a total non-issue these days.

Hard to believe, but his impeachment is the third worst event during Trump's reign ... and that's just in this year.
