Taibbi: The News Media Is Destroying Itself

It’s far worse than ESPN.

 

The shouting douchebag shows began on ESPN.

CNN was not doing that in 2005, but ESPN was.

 

But that was just sports, which hardly matter in comparison to national current events and the “coverage”.

 

Crossfire debuted in 1982

 

Far from the worst of its kind.

 

And Jon Stewart pointing out that Crossfire was a cesspool, while he was a guest on Crossfire, happened in 2004. I mean, the "yelling and shouting" debate show has its roots in something like Meet The Press or The McLaughlin Group, but they had the 'feel' of people honestly advocating what they thought. At a certain point, that just shifted to arguing for argument's sake on the cable networks. It's kind of like the difference between PTI and First Take.

 

Crossfire was like a 17th-century Paris literary salon compared to the level of discourse today.

 

Aye.

And The Sports Reporters was the Algonquin Round Table compared to fuckin First Take.

 

A real crest of the wave moment for Crossfire ...

 

I'm fascinated by her. Doesn't mean I like her. Doesn't mean I dislike her. But I like listening to her talk.
