Football coaches around the nation talk about teaching their players to have high character and to be leaders. But they're scared to death those same players will start acting and voicing their character and being leaders.

Absolutely. But the idea that (insert player) isn't going to play until Coach changes his politics, which were exactly the same when you got there and rushed for 2,000 yards last year, is ridiculous. Did they forgot what the moron said about the virus in April? Get out if you don't like the coach's politics. The whole point of the transfer portal is to put yourself in a better situation.

Go to Oklahoma. Lincoln Riley seems like he's a pretty down-to-earth guy. Mike Gundy isn't going to change. Mike Gundy doesn't give a fuck what Chuba Hubbard thinks about his news viewing habits. And I guarantee the dumbass wore that shirt on purpose as his protest to all the protests and then he seemed to outsmart a college kid into apologizing to him.

True. But the season hasn't started yet. I won't assume that Hubbard will still be there in September. Based on the current political climate the NCAA would give him immediate eligibility wherever he goes.

Yeah whatever. I would say Gundy is up there with Dabo as the most insincere jackass in college football, but Gundy doesn't often come to mind since he hasn't done shit yet.

Today's hostage video was the second Gundy video in less than 24 hours to try to address this.

I think Gundy cares very, very much what the nation's leading rusher thinks of his news viewing habits.

The iron rule of sports, for player, coach, GM/AD, hell, even university president or owner, is that you can be as big of an asshole as you want as long as you win just as big. Somebody like Gundy, whose record says "competent but ain't won shit," is in constant danger of taking one step over the line. This wasn't it. There will be one of those steps, that's for sure.

I doubt it. But does he want to give the outward impression he cares? Sure.

I can't stand the Mullet of the Plains, but I don't get this talk that he's an average coach.
He has produced 14 straight winning seasons at Oklahoma State. That's not easy. Their previous streak of winning seasons was six years.
In the past five years, they're in the top 20 nationally in overall and conference winning percentage.
He is 2-13 against Oklahoma, and that's obviously a source of angst, but he has been above water consistently in Stillwater.
I would love to see him humiliated and tossed into professional oblivion, but there are a lot of programs that would take his overall track record.

I did say competent. That's what he is. Given Okie Light's geographical and financial advantages, he's the college Jeff Fisher.

Just depends on your expectations. They play in a poor conference and schedule easy out of conference games. They finish a tick above .500 and go to a bowl you've never heard of.

Is that success for Oklahoma State? Maybe it is. Maybe it's unreasonable to expect more. But if I'm T. Boone Pickens, I don't think I'm paying for this.

If you're T. Boone Pickens, you're dead. But seriously, I am curious if there's still cash in his estate that has yet to be designated.

No idea who the new T. Boone Pickens is, but if I was him, I'd be asking how many other coaches are available making $5 million a year, capable of the same success as Gundy is having, maybe beat OU once in a while and not be a fucking embarrassment.
