Today looks like a record number for cases, which seems crazy after how things went in April. For the but more testing crowd, more tests today than a week ago but a 7.7 percent positive rate compared to a 4.9 last week. Not a good trend.

Huh. I thought that more testing after lockdown was supposed to reveal reduced infections. Go figure...

Booked my tickets back to the states today for Christmas. (Credit from a cancelled trip last month.)

This seems like the most empty gesture I've made in a long time.

The lady at the end asks "suggestively" the other woman rethink her credentials. I want to see her ask suggestively. Please, can I see what that looks like.

Yup. According to the COVID Tracking Report, largest one-day increase since this began: 38,672

    https://covidtracking.com/data/us-daily

I'm in the more testing crowd. 7.7 percent one-day increase is the largest since May 10.

The seven-day average of tests back positive is 5.9 percent. We haven't been there since May 22.

Went to Home Depot, cashier and returns clerk wearing masks below their noses. "It's hot out and I can't breathe."

At Haagen-Dasz, first day re-opened in-store, server not wearing mask as I (and others) walk in

CVS, cashier pushes aside plexiglas barrier. "It's a pain to check people out."

Contractor: Wants to finish project but not until workers can work without masks, because "it's better for them."

Had my first group outing today with my service club at a member’s home. Despite me sending out CDC recommendations with suggestions for such gatherings, no one listened. There were help-yourself plates of appetizers and everyone scooping out of the same trays for dinner and cutting into desserts. I brought individual fruit cups and no one ate them.

The host’s husband asked why I didn’t have any appetizers and I said I was saving room for dinner instead of “I’m saving my life.” I was the second one to grab dinner so only one person’s germs were ahead of mine.

There also were handshakes and no masks, although most arrived wearing them. This is a very educated group and most are moderate politically. It wasn’t deliberate defiance, but it really bothered me.

FWIW, at 60 I was the fifth youngest person there among 16 people.
