Will COVID-19 be the needle that finally bursts the sports bubble?

So Cuomo imposes a 14-day isolation on anybody coming into NY from a hot spot state. If this is still in place in August, does this mean the Rays, Marlins and Braves can’t play at the Yankees or Mets?

Cuomo and MLB said they’ll work together on a plan. Still have to see if baseball can actually be played.

NY/NJ/CT are very late to the party. Massachusetts put a 14-day self-quarantine for anyone from out of state into place months ago. It might still be in effect.

I'm pretty sure it is. A friend in Massachusetts posted about it today also in response to New York's.

Couldn't have been related to UConn's bottomless pit of a beyond-useless football program.

    Some updated stats gleaned from
COVID-19 Era Dropped & Suspended Sports

Men's sports account for 63% of the executed teams and athletes. Men represented 53% of the athletes and 45% of the teams in Division I (all football classifications) in 2018-19, the most recent year for which participation data are available.
Men's and women's tennis, which accounted for 8.3% of all teams fielded in 2018-19, represent 29% of executed teams so far in the Trumpandemic era (11 of the 38). Six of the 14 institutions that have whacked at least one team have done away with one or both tennis teams.

FBS Group of Five schools are responsible for 19 of the 38 team executions. FCS schools have kicked in 12 (32% of the total) and those with no football have the other seven.

Just thought of this. College football teams will take players' temperature and they'll know if a player is coughing. But some symptoms are initially known only to the patient.

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    Fatigue
    Muscle or body aches
    Headache
New loss of taste or smell
    Sore throat
    Diarrhea

It's not impossible to imagine a circumstance in which a player has one or more of these but is reluctant to report out of fear that one more positive test will cause the operation to shut down or suffer competitive consequences. (Example: A quarterback who fears his positive test will compel the quarantine of all other QBs.)

In regards to professional athletes, especially football players, several of those could also be attributed to the rigors of the profession.

On Monday afternoon I was pretty optimistic we'd get a high school football season in our state. Teams are back practicing, after all.
And then I heard the AD for two of the big local high schools speaking to a civic group. Thirty minutes later, I was downright pessimistic.
Among the challenges he mentioned was buses. The current guidelines limit buses to 12 people, so a big Class 6A football team might need 10 just to get to a road game. Money is going to be an issue if that's the case. And that was one of a dozen logistical concerns he mentioned that had nothing to do with the virus itself. A couple of teams around the state have had some positive tests, and there's been a general uptick in cases the past 7-10 days.
It feels like we're right back where we were in March and April. It's depressing. Not because we might not have sports for a while, but just because it feels like we're doomed to repeat this cycle until the end of the world.
