Beginning the 2020 season, Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson had consecutive race starting streaks reaching back to the 2002 Daytona 500, tied for ninth longest in NASCAR history. And now both will end.

Goodyear has helped create a nice fireworks display at Indy today.
Several cars blew out right front tires, which sent them into the wall as fiery wrecks. The last was Denny Hamlin, who had it happen with seven laps to go. Kevin Harvick takes advantage and steals the win.

Goodyear sucks so, so much. Don't want to hear about the package or lack of testing or whatever the party line is this time. Good thing Nascar makes the cars so safe, gotta protect the drivers from their tires.

During the broadcast they were saying that the track was "green," which I took to mean a little more abrasive than usual. Still, those were some hard wrecks that lit cars on fire. That's not good.

Anyone who ever saw Cup Series racers running on bias-ply tires ain’t impressed by today’s exhibition of tire fragility.

The fact that Firestone manages to shoe the Indy 500 teams every year with almost zero problems -- while they're circling at 225 mph -- doesn't leave Goodyear looking too good. Actually, it's stunning when a Firestone blows in any IndyCar race. With Goodyear it's just one of those racin' deals, and the reps say that the teams were screwing with air pressures too much. Uh-huh.

I won't mention them by name because I'm certain they Google search everything, but NASCAR's main supplier claims to have never built a faulty tire in its history, and gets its corporate panties in a wad if anyone even suggests such a thing. It's always excuse after excuse: overinflation, underinflation, the incorrect camber, the incorrect caster, running over debris or melted beads because of overheated brakes. They have the thinnest skins of anyone in the garage, probably because they know they build a crap product. If you even hint at any criticism, their PR people are immediately up in your face.

The debacle at Indy in 2008, with just nine green flag laps? They first blamed the Speedway, then pawned it off on lack of testing and NASCAR's insistance on using a particular compound. Take blame for it? Hell, no. The uproar over delamination at Michigan? Crews were trying "unapproved setups" (as a truck was leaving Charlotte with replacements overnight). Tony Stewart ripping them at Atlanta? They went to NASCAR, bitched up a storm and Tony's been on a short leash ever since.

Donald Trump doesn't hold a candle to them when it comes to deflection and misdirection. They're a running joke, literally.

I won't put them on my vehicles.

No regrets giving Trump the run of the place at Daytona, eh, Nascar?

If Trump loses NASCAR, the world as we know it will be irrepairably changed.
