Story says “fall sports” and stops there. Statement from the conference says “all competitions scheduled for the fall semester,” which seems to cover the start of winter sports seasons as well. At least that’s how I read it. Story doesn’t address what would seem to be an important element.

I think it’ll still be a couple of weeks after the Ivy. Leagues will look like a bunch of wimps immediately following the lead of that league.

I think all the conferences should wait a couple of weeks.

I expect the Pac 12 will pull the plug by the end of this month, and we'll see the cascade effect from there. Right now, southern governors are trying to strong arm the schools. My guess is university presidents and board of regents are smarter than that, especially since the governor doesn't have to explain to angry parents why Johnny and Julie were fine all summer and sick all fall.

And Dabo's team can play Nick's team 12 times if they want.

D3 schools and leagues already saying they won't be playing in the fall.

I meant group of five and power five conferences.

Hell, they’ll save money atthe D3 level. Sports is a way of increasing enrollment at those schools. This way, they get to reap the tuition without having to pay for the sports.

(I rather like D3 football btw. And the highest level of NAIA. Good football. I love the running backs at that level. A lot of smaller guys who were great in HS and still really good.)

I hope so. I have a friend who teaches at UGA and he's seriously pissed at what they're currently expected to do, and I've seen articles to the effect that the Ga. Tech faculty is right there with them. I know that the SEC schools desperately want a football season and that implies kids in class, but I don't think that will be possible, not with the rate of infection rising the way that it is.

I think the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases will dampen the enthusiasm of the southern governors. For example, Greg Abbott was telling people to expect to play to 50% capacity in stadiums. If the number of cases continue to increase in Texas I think he will be much more amenable to canceling a season.

Oh it’s possible, even likely. Sports will be cut, thousands of jobs will be lost unless the sport comes back in the spring, but I expect it may happen.
