I've always thought club sports were more in line with the collegiate experience.

Club rugby was a barely governed godsend.

No delay here yet, but it's coming as the lightweight association hems and haws.

I envision Stanford men's volleyball supporters coming through with cash to save the program, like Cal baseball did a couple of years ago. Men's volleyball made the cut at USC.
There are very few men's volleyball programs around the country. Over the years, there weren't enough programs to have an official national championship, according to NCAA bylaws. The subsection was, if the championship paid for itself, it could continue. I think it was CBS that stepped up.

That's the one that really stands out. Alumni probably have the means to compel an announcement that the program has been saved. The real deal will be if and when they actually give the money. Commitments are nice; gifts are real.
To your point, there were only 23 men's volleyball programs in 2019-20.

I mean, most of those are club sports. How many of the 11 are NCAA-sponsored? Volleyball, wrestling, field hockey and maybe fencing?

As does wrestling. The number of schools offering it on the West Coast is dwindling. Also worth noting: sailing. Recall the (presumably now-former) coach pleaded guilty in the admissions scandal.

Dang it! I just finished the photoshop of my kid winning lightweight rowing so he’d be a shoo-in for admission.

Yep. These cuts were easy. Six of the sports aren’t NCAA championship sports. Field hockey was one of three Division I programs west of Iowa City. Wrestling is, as you said, not a west coast sport, either.
On the clock: BC. Sailing and skiing? Time to go.

Not sure this Ivy League move will create an immediate domino effect in the Power 5, but I could be wrong.
