McClunkchy? There are plays on words, and well, there are sad attempts.

What are you a suit? If not, how do you have time to post here working 60 and getting paid 40? Get to work Slacker!

The Compass Experiment is interesting. Longmont is the second city (Youngstown, Ohio is the other). Wonder if there will be more, but also, the deal with Google only goes until next March, so who knows what happens beyond that, especially because of the ongoing bankruptcy and what might come out of that.

Chatham is the choice, according to Craig Forman. Judge will approve (or not) on July 24.

Guess that's better than the alternative (Alden). Death by lethal injection instead of death by stoning.

So what does Chatham do with the newspaper chain? Would they kill the print product? Nobody else has done that yet.

Can't blame them. Guessing union busting will be one of the primary tasks as the cost-cutting begins.

How will they cut costs? Didn't McClatchy have consistent staff cuts the past 5-10 years to the point any more cuts would pretty much eliminate the print product? Are they going to go all online under Chatham? That way Chatham could cut staff in half or more and still pretend it's out to save journalism. Simple slashing of the reporters, some of the editors and the layout center workers might make it seem like they are pulling an Alden, just greed at work.

NEVER underestimate how much a new owner will cut. Saw it at McClatchy and two other chains with my own eyes.

What many of us think "we cannot live without" is seen as "expendable" by a beancounter. Far too much evidence left in the last 15-20 years in this profession.
