If Weiss has proof of the bullying - I kinda think she’s puffed this up, but we’ll see - there will be litigation, social media driven and perhaps otherwise.

And I know you keep playing this “who? Huh?” Routine when it comes to the New York Times but that operation has some serious issues.

The twitter thread I posted represents my thinking - that this was mostly a Bennet problem.

You want to play this out as another episode of conservative persecution, I'm not going to change your mind.

Douthat seems to do OK there though.

According to you and that guy it was a Bennet problem. (And that guy didn't even really label it a Bennet problem.)

We'll see. I found the comp to Nazi Germany a few weeks ago very odd and misplaced in a long, discursive essay designed, like many pieces at the NYT are now, to pummel the reader with length into either conceding they didn't read it or weariness.

Douthat is way more conservative than Weiss or Stephens. It would seem, however, his colleagues don't dislike him. Maybe that's because the real issue here isn't an ideological struggle, but just a division between who's an asshole and who is not.

Maybe Weiss' point is something along the lines of "if you're a progressive at the NYT, you can act any old way you please, and get away with it."

    And maybe Douthat's next.

If she’s coming with unequal treatment, I’d love some examples from her on what the paper’s progressives have “gotten away with.”

Is it just me or are "opinion" people the worst when it comes to being thin-skinned? Folks on TV, radio and print really seem unable to handle criticism while they have no problem dishing it out for their paycheck. Meanwhile, your average beat or feature writer would hop on the phone and drop an e-mail wanting to understand a particular complaint.

It depends on what it is she has from these Slack discussions.

My sense is, not much. But we'll see if she pushes it.
