A reasoned, balanced discussion about the virus from a physician that makes points that will piss off both sides (which is probably why I found it so intriguing).

    Trumpists won't like to hear:
--- It's not like the flu
    --- Wear a mask --- don't be a jackass

This board won't like to hear:
--- Evidence is emerging that herd immunity may be possible at levels about one-third of initial estimates (he explains why). That's why New York, Italy and Spain are doing so much better, he says. Herd immunity and personal responsibility.
--- You don't need to shut everything down.

One third of original estimates is still between 76 and 87 MILLION infected.

EDIT: There's a reason I teach history and not math. Deaths between 7 and 9 million would be a 10 percent rate. I meant to do 1 percent which is 760,000 and 870,000 people. Still a lot, but not nearly as bad as 10 percent.

Clovis, Calif., school district to open for classes in fall. One of the better public school districts in the state, located a little northeast of Fresno, very close to the Fresno State campus (and, yes, 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe).

You're working Alma's "rooting for things to go badly," corner here.

I doubt there's a person on here who wouldn't be overjoyed at herd immunity being possible. Secondly, I don't recall anyone on here campaigning for a real, total shutdown; the debate has been on essential vs. unessential businesses (refer to Spartan Squad's post). Feel free to do your "there's a post for everything," deal and dig some up advocating for total shutdowns... assuming the writers were serious and not hyperbolic/sarcastic.

And despite what this doctor said, there's "evidence," herd immunity may not be achievable. (Oh shit, there I go "rooting for things to go badly," again.)

Alma has been called "Trump's boy" and "Pence's boy" on here, based on his posts being slightly out of alignment with the party line here.

That's a hell of a lot more ridiculous than saying people seem to want things to go badly when 99.7 percent of what they post is bad news, and any good news gets shouted down as being "Trumpist."

    YMMV

He is far more than slightly off the party line. He has consistently attacked liberals while often moving to justify the behavior of President Trump and his minions.

If it walks like a duck and posts like a duck....
