Finished with a 10 after trying to get the first OB ball to actually be inbounds. Didn't like the first ruling so he brought in the tournament referee. Nope, OB.

Heard that exchange on PGA Tour radio when he asked for a second opinion. Douche.

I agree he's a douche, but in this case, it was worth an appeal. If it's in the rules, you're allowed to use the rules.

And that 10 helped Tiger make it to the weekend.

Yes, but the rule sounded black and white to me, not open to interpretation. He didn't fully understand it, though that hardly makes him unique among Tour pros.

The rule is black and white. I wasn’t watching; was a surveyor needed to measure a straight line between OB posts?

Not even a rule, per se, just things that are included in the definitions in the Rules of Golf. Trust me, I made flash cards for every damn one of them preparing for Rules school, which was canceled by the damn pandemic.

    Where was his ball?

Essentially on the boundary line, which was the imaginary line Ken Tackett was trying to show Bryson. The ball was outside of that edge. If it's on the line, it's out, because the course-side edge is the defining line. Had the ball been inside that edge, he could have played it but he would not have gotten free relief from the fence. Had that been the case, he could have hopped the fence and played it but I don't know how he would have done so without destroying his club and probably breaking his wrists.
