Only 200 million Americans live South and West. And Trump is not about to admit the particular areas that are doing well because then he might be forced to acknowledge that "Do-Nothing Democrats" did well, relatively speaking, to flatten the curve and help contain COVID-19.

This pandemic, and its bungled attempt to contain it, is not a political issue. But it is to Trump, either because when he chooses to listen to someone else, he does so to the wrong people and/or he's truly stupid. And funny how many of the areas which have lemmings in official positions - i.e., people who seem to put entirely too much stock into what Trump thinks of them - are really fouling this up.

    Speaking of maps . . .

You know those outbreaks in Texas? Great majority of new cases are happening in Harris, Dallas, Tarrant and Bexar counties. Blue, Blue, Very light red, Blue. Are all these Democrats in Texas taking their public health advice from Trump?

Azrael might be better able to speak to this. My perpetually miffed lawyer ex from Flatbush said the "We are all New Yorkers" thing after 9/11 lasted until families of the victims started asking for help after the cameras went away and we all got distracted. His answers to my admiration for Guiliani for the way he handled that crisis always included the words, "shithouse rat."

Weird you call a county where Trump got 52.2 percent of the votes "very light red," but call one where Clinton got 54.2 percent "blue."

A percentage increase would be a more meaningful statistic here than an absolute count. For instance, a number of hospitals down in the Rio Grande Valley (e.g. in Hidalgo County most notably) have been strained in terms of capacity as well, but their capacity is also a lot smaller than those of the big cities which are in bright red here. By showing absolute counts, all this is highlighting is basically where those populous areas are--in other words, it would be surprising if their counts *weren't* much greater than those of the rural areas.

I seem to recall that the state governor and lt. governor refused to take measures to protect the state's citizens, and that when Dem mayors tried to do so the state disputed them and forced statewide policies based on Trump's position.

This sounds like blaming the Dems for not changing things when the R's held the House, Senate, and White House.

"Now, you might have heard that President Trump's youngest son, Barron, won't be able to attend his school this fall because it won't open due to the pandemic. But don't worry, folks. I've found a great replacement. It's called Rudy's Covid Academy and it's in the Bronx. It is run by Rocco and Nikolai, two of President Trump's most important, if not well-known associates."
