    No, that's Twitter.

That would be Deadspin circa 2011.

I think it's funny the Deadspin commentariat (arguably the better/funnier writers) now have to pay to be heard. Not much of a customer reward, is it.

Twitter ought to be the same way.

Defector will be the prestige, longform version of Twitter. Hell, I'd expect the site to do its share of inveighing against Twitter and anyone who uses it. A lot of the people who use Twitter want to be castigated for loving it too much. Railing against the evils of Twitter is part of how it becomes a respectable (that is, powerful) vice.

I think this is an oddly and overly narrow view of what Deadspin offered and what people enjoyed about it.

Coming from guys who used Twitter to become the insiders.

10,000 people are willing to spend money to read snarky articles where the writers make every story about themselves?

That’s fair. But the NCAA and NFL are changing too, robbing New Deadspin of some of sting.

I laugh at Magary. Not sure I’ll pay for it. For now, no.

Yes. And don't forget all the extra money they'll get from TV appearances, book deals and, when they decide to quit in protest, consulting gigs.

Not for nothing, but the U.S. economy just posted its worst drop on record.

It's OK to for Magary to stop worrying about whether he's sufficiently earned his booze cred at this point.

We are under one sky on that. He deserves to get as drunk as he likes.
