Exactly. Nobody wants to be first, but somebody will eventually have to fall on the sword. That way, the rest of the country ... the ACC and SEC and Big 12 ... can say, "We would have played, but the (insert wimpy conference here) canceled and we had to choice."

UAB gets to keep the game at Miami, second Thursday of the season. <grin> They consider it a tune up game, and they're still pissed about losing to Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl. I figure back to back losses to C-USA teams should really burn them up. They didn't get Spring practice and they're putting in a new offense, and the Blazers have a veteran D that was in the Top Ten the last two seasons. Win that one and even if the rest of the season goes down the tubes I'll be ok. This looks like the best team we've ever put on the field.

    15.5 sacks last season.

You gambling types might want to look at this one, depending on the line. We're not going to sneak up on people like we did in 2017.

Two fewer games. Fewer chances to infect people. Same result anyway. Win-win.

Oklahoma won't get the chance to hoist another "CFP Semifinalist" banner, though.

Let's see - play Navy at Annapolis or Western Michigan at home? $uch a difficult deci$ion.

Besides, Navy might get lucky and upset them, and W. Michigan won't.

Southern Miss announced that it has added games against Tennessee Tech and Tulane, and moved its season opener against South Alabama up two days to Sept. 3. That gives Southern Miss a full 12-game schedule and would seem to be an indication that Conference USA and perhaps some of the other G5 conferences are saying damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

Something tells me if ND asked Navy to come to South Bend this year and give them an extra road game in the future, Navy would have said okay

Realistically, I interpret this as C-USA schools needing the checks from the body bag games which normally fall early in the schedule. They can beg their season ticket holders not to refund their unused game tickets, but those P5 games are a crucial to their athletic budgets.
