2020 MLB Running Thread

Did you know that there was actually once a major league team called the Pilots?

 

Pilot Field (opened 1988) began the wave of retro downtown ballparks. It preceded Camden Yards by several years. It has the footings for an upper deck, should one had become necessary if Buffalo would have gotten an expansion team for the 1993 season. It's a great place to watch a game.

And yes the Bisons were a ChiSox farm team, I think when they played in the American Association after moving up from the Eastern League, where they played when baseball returned to Buffalo in 1978 after a short hiatus. Joe DeSa was one of the Buffalo stars of that era.

Many do not realize this. They were “short-lived.”

 

St. Pete was the main play since the dome was up and ready to play, but I believe Reinsdorf, etc etc also used Buffalo and maybe Louisville too as possible escape hatches to extort the new Comiskey Park out of the Illinois legislature.

 

Maybe someone should have written a book about them while they were short lived?
