This is also hurting those guys in the wallet too. And it should.

I just can’t get into this short season. It goes beyond being a fan of one of the worst teams in baseball.

So punish them within the rules.

As opposed to breaking the rules by going out on the town. Screw those guys. And good for the rest of the team and the organization appropriately punishing them.

So let's toss out the rules when the behavior pisses people off enough. Got it.

Come on. You're defending those guys for what they did? Because, well, the union? Got it.

You've got a guy Carrasco who just beat leukemia and is likely to be highly susceptible to COVID and you do this? Yeah, I'd be pissed about that and screw your grievance. The thing about the grievance is that the union has to file the grievance on behalf of the player but once its filed, its up to the player to prove their case.

That isn't what I said. Punish them within the rules. If teams have the discretion to toss out the CBA, that is an issue. Are the Indians doing this to punish them or to use the situation to push back Clevinger's free agency by a year? It is a fair question.

In this case, that would mean suspending the players rather than demoting them.

Probably both. So what. As is often said: It's a business. Actions have consequences.

I highly doubt that the Indians are doing this to screw him. This is a serious health issue. Its easy to wonder "well maybe" but enough of that, prove it. If somehow he does, good for him but until then, he did a totally unacceptable thing, then continued to lie about it to his teammates and threw his teammate under the bus. Give him the full treatment available. If its not allowed, then he'll prevail under the grievance.

It's a fair question, but so is "What the everloving fuck were you thinking, running around courting Covid and then exposing us, you asshole?"

Honestly, I don't have a specific issue with what the Indians are doing. It is more of a slippery slope argument that I am presenting here. When you let teams ignore the CBA in one situation, it opens the door for others.

Perhaps the MLBPA is addressing the issue informally with MLB, making it clear that the CBA will be enforced most of the time, but fuck Clevinger and Plesac for being such morons.

No team gets to ignore the CBA, including the Indians. I've got to believe that the team's general counsel knows what is allowed and what is not and acted accordingly (BTW my law school buddy's father in law owns the Indians).
