The lightning storm that hit northern California have set off a bunch of wildfires, including one burning from Napa to the outskirts of Vacaville. My former morning drive show host has been evacuated from his house. Good luck and prayers to all.

It's crazy. My back yard had a good dusting of ash this morning. Going outside is a no go right now. Not that I have anywhere to go. Fire North of me. Fire South of me. Fire to the west. Nothing near me but there's no escape.

Just a bit of the fun we're having in my area...

Just hit 115 today, so we're up to 43 days where we've hit at least 110 this year. That's a record.

Also, 25 days when the overnight low hasn't dipped below 90 degrees. Also a record.

Still a lot of summer left here.

Ugh. Five or six weeks of it. My sympathies.

Summer has been weird here. Hitting triple digits is unusual but does happen every couple of years. We normally have some days in late July, early August that get into the 90s.
If it's hit 90, I don't remember it. It's just stayed constantly and miserably in the upper 80s with bitch humidity.

Mongo T-storms here. The good news is that it's supposed to drop to 69 or so tonight.

Meanwhile, just east of the Mississippi, it's been in the high 80s and relatively comfortable most of the past week. It's usually about 92 with a heat index around 100 in the summer here. We're almost ready to break out parkas.

Have had ash falling here the past couple of days with four major fires raging more than 100 miles from here. One of the fires I'm closely following because it's near the site of the crash that killed my sister's family and I've been up there. Hasn't reached the site, but lots of dead brush up there.

Hit 100 yesterday and we've had close to 60 90--degree days this year. Zero rain. Rivers, creeks and streams are drying up. Not as bad as 2012, but it's damn close.

Yeah, the dew point finally dropped below 70, which is the measuring stick for us between "open the windows in the morning" or "turn on the AC" because of the sticky, humid air. Monday was the least humid evening in about eight weeks. The thunderstorms were already popping this morning around 10, which means the unstable stuff returned. But we're looking at overnight lows in the mid 60s.
