    BYM2-
Thank you, I thought he did.

I listened to a lot of Marty and Joe Nuxhall over the years, and they were no shrinking violets when it came to giving their opinions on anything and everything.

    Nuxhall was particularly salty.

Hot mic is no excuse. At least be professional about that.

Best I heard was in the old NASL, the L.A. Aztecs playing New England, I think it was, at El Camino College. George Best was on that team with Ron Davies, Bobby Sibbald and Bobby McAlinden. Mid second half, the Aztecs score to take an 8-0 lead. Booming through the stadium: "THESE ASSHOLES ARE FUCKING AWFUL."

Yes, a Reds home run ball was thrown back onto the field late in a blowout Cubs win, and then a dozen more balls followed and Marty lost his mind about Cubs fans being obnoxious and how it's easy to root for the team to lose because of them. Marty's rant was not profane or wrong.

Better, but he's probably still done for the season.

Apparently. The local media are giving him a forum for a second shot at a mea culpa. He'll be back. He'll leverage Trumpist claims of Cancel Culture into yet another chance. When you're the son of a local legend who has been on the air a while in your own right and you say something homophobic in a Trumpist town that embraced Marge Schott, you get as many chances as you need. The Reds will think they've done enough by issuing a tough statement and sidelining him for six more weeks in a meaningless season.

How or why did Brennaman take that conversation there in the booth anyway?

The radio men of my youth would say shit on the air that would never fly today.
And it's hard to find audio because largely sports radio of the distant past is a hard thing to find.
Remember the creepo 1982-style camera shots of the attractive female fan sitting in the mezzanine - the camera shots that linger a little too long?
You have to laugh even thinking that would be attempted now.

I've been on the headset listening to talk between the truck and the camera operators at games -- much later than 1982 -- and it was still pretty bad.
