The Webster family is headed down to Duck for a week completely on a whim. Any places which we should see/things to do/places to eat?

You ever been there? If not, I'd go a little south to visit Kitty Hawk and the Wright Brothers site and then on to Manteo for all the Lost Colony stuff (if it's open). Wanchese is an interesting place from the standpoint of saying you've been there. You'll pass Currituck lighthouse is up in Corolla. Bodie Island lighthouse is not too far away. No trip to Kitty Hawk or Kill Devil Hills is complete without hitting the Brew Thru.

It's been years since I've been up that way, but those are things I remember.

30 years ago, I went hang gliding there on the dunes - channeling Orville and Wilbur - but I don't know if that's still a thing.

It's been a long time since I lived out there -- 19 years, geez -- but I always liked Tortuga's Lie and Red Drum in Nags Head. I think they're both still around. I'm sure a ton of new places have come along but I liked those in part because they felt very local.

Double check to make sure N.C. 12 isn't buried under sand and debris after the last storm.

Go to the kite place next to the sand dunes and get a couple $20 kites or pre order some on amazon with a 500-foot thread wheel.

Can you ghost crab in Duck? Drive north for more peace and quiet. Drive south for more people.

People swear by Duck Donuts but be prepared to wait.

If you have a 4WD vehicle, head to the top of NC 12 and drive up the beach toward Corova to see wild horses.

    Corolla, not Corova.

No, I meant Corova Beach, above Corolla, the one you can only access via 4WD.

Getting crab cakes at Sam and Omies (South Nags Head) is always on my to do list. If you’re up for a day trip, the drive down Hatteras and ferry ride to Ocracoke is as beautiful as any in NC.
