For whatever reason -- I think satellite retransmission is part of it, although that should only take fractions of a second -- when I watch MLB games (and other events) on cable channels on streaming services, there's like a 30-second delay-- I'll get a text notification saying "Xxxx has hit a home run," then it happens on screen. Sometimes the delay is like a minute; the broadcast is one or two batters behind.

Speaking of no delay, many moons ago when CNN was in its infancy, I came home from work late one night and was watching a program called Newsnight. The late Patrick Emory was the male anchor and the female was, I think, named Beverly Williams. They were taking calls from the public and weren't on a delay. Caller from somewhere gets on the line and Emory asked for his comment. "I'd like to f--- the female anchor," the guy said, then hung up. As I recall, both anchors kept their cool, then went to a commercial shortly after that.

How awesome, since longtime Philly sports talk host and Dallas Mavericks PBP guy Chuck Cooperstein was next to me that fateful day! He's gone on to greatness. I've done time.

I posted that a couple of years ago. "If" means you don't think you've done anything wrong.

That's some of it, but more because of the time it takes your digital device to assemble the streaming packets into a usuable video stream. There's a buffering of between 30 and 60 seconds for that to happen, depending on the speed of your connection and the speed of your computer or phone's video card.

I'm certain some computer geek knows more about how it works than me.

Coop is excellent at PBP and so is his heir apparent, Mark Followill, whom I shared beers with along with his co-host Doogie a lifetime ago at a bar in Denton.

I was watching the late anchor Bobbie Batista of CNN like decades ago. They cut to commercial but the camera is still live on her. She glances at the camera, then slips what looked like a silver ball the size of a Hershey Kiss into her mouth. To this day I don't know what it was.

He was just a kid from New Yawk at UF but he was super organized and driven. I wasn't surprised that he'd make it big. The third guy in our group, Larry Vettel, was no slouch, either. He worked a number of gigs covering Gators sports for Sunshine Network and ran sports talk stations in Ocala and Gainesville.

Keith Law not holding anything back in his semi-regular newsletter: "We've had one of the worst announcers in baseball, a man who only had his job because his father (who was also quite terrible at the same job) was famous, drop a vile homophobic slur on a hot mic, and two days later he still hasn't been fired by the team that employs him. (Get the fuck off the pot, Cincinnati. That word is a firing offense.)"

Yeah, my internet service is straight outta Bedrock, so I'm sure that's most of it. Every couple hours it goes into a complete coma and I gotta restart and reboot.
