What instruments do you play?

What instruments do you play or have played? How long have you played?

I've been playing the piano for 12 years now. Love it.

I was a drummer in my junior high school band. That was the extent of my musical career. I wasn't very good.
My son was first chair sax in his high school band and is now learning guitar. His mother is a very good piano player, he got her musical genes.

I picked up my first set of drum sticks when I was 9.
Haven't played in close to 10 years now.
I absolutely wore out 3 full sets between the ages of 13 and 20.
    Played entirely by ear.
My band instructor was brand new my junior year of high school in 1992. He set a piece of sheet music of Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" in front of me. I looked at it, he looked at me, and said "Nevermind."
    And that was that.
Not to beat my own drum, but I was very very good.

Bass guitar, but not particularly well. It’s more of a way to calm the angry corners of my brain by giving them something to do.

Tall bass in 7th grade, 2nd chair in the year-end concert.

My whole life I've wanted to play guitar.

Picked up the trombone in 5th grade ... switched to flute for two reasons:
    1) A very nice woman could offer private lessons to help the process.
    2) It was much easier pedaling a bicycle across the largest U.S. air base overseas with that in a case vs. a trombone.

Picked up the piccolo late in middle school and played that through college. Added a couple of years of piano not long after piccolo.

Ended up with almost as many credit hours in music as in my degree field ... the music minor was a lot of fun.

Probably should have picked up drums, but I am certain that my family would have disowned me.

Tuba ... high school and college.

Always remember ... it's not how big your instrument is, but how you play it. :)

None. My wife has the musical talent. Luckily, she passed it to my son. He plays piano and saxophone.

In high school and after I played:
    - piccolo
    - flute
    - clarinet (Bflat & Bass)
    - oboe
    - tenor sax
    - trumpet
    - trombone
    - French horn
    - tuba
    - percussion
    - guitar

The one instrument I wanted to play was piano but my parents said we could't afford a piano for just one kid out of the bunch of us. Now - I sing.

I want to hear the best oboe player from Ojai.

Well I didn't play beyond a high school level on most of them - clarinet was my best. I had planned to be a high school band teacher so it seemed like a good idea to learn a lot of instruments. And it let me play in multiple groups - concert band, marching band, brass ensemble, stage band, pit orchestra for school musicals which went a long way to helping me to survive my very miserable teen years. LOL
