I ran into one of our local junior college players yesterday. His team is still planning to play in October, and the four-year schools that are recruiting him included a couple of SWAC schools that are planning to play in the spring. So, theoretically, he could play juco ball this fall, sign in December, and turn right around to play a six-game spring season beginning in February.
I asked him about that and he didn't seem too keen on the idea. He specifically was worried about the physical aspect of it.
I imagine the thought of playing a spring season followed by a fall season three months later, at the FBS level, is much more unappealing. You want to talk about the long-term effects of COVID, the long-term effects of playing 18-20 games without a full offseason seems even more dangerous. If the Big 10 decides to play in the spring, they must marry it to a plan to also shorten the 2021 fall season, right?

You'd think so. But we both know the conferences witll push it until there's a full player revolt., one they damn well might win.

I worked a semipro game today. First time on the field since the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend when it was 18 and 8 feet of snow on the sideline.

Masks optional. I wore one when I was around others. Or at least pulled it down when I could. It sucked. Need to go to the gaiter in the future.

You're going to see officials with masks/gaiters. Electronic whistles (they suck). There will be LOTS of errors from officials this season, even at the NFL level, so take heed. NO reps this offseason. I was beyond rusty.

Our game got called with 11:25 left in the third when a jackass protested that he threw a punch (he did, it didn't land). Then demonstrated it and poked the white hat in the eye. Meh, it was 100 degrees anyway. We were done.

One of the crew mates was a Big 12 official. They all are driving to their assignments this year, no flights. Same with other conferences.

The ncaa is going to recommend mid year enrollees are not eligible.

How's the NCAA going to get that message out? Everyone -- except senior executives -- have been furloughed. The big shots there probably don't have a media list handy to consult when sending out a news release.

Should we rename this thread or start a new one to reflect the fact that college football has more or less restarted?

I think coaches will permanently adopt masks..... Since so many had gone to carrying something to put in front of their mouths. Hand were free yesterday.

Perhaps go to the traditional weekly threads?

What is the Big 12 going to do for Morgantown. Have the guys from Texas drive?

We actually did a doubleheader Friday.
Scheduling mix up from a league commish, so they asked us to work a game at 3, then drive 15 miles to work one at 7. Being the whores we are, we said sure.
Kansas is recommending masks, but not requiring them. Game time temp for our first game was 97. Oh.....and it was a 6-man game. First one we've ever worked.
It was kinda interesting.......everyone eligible. QB has to get rid of the ball. Stress free 44-26 game. Nightcap was another stress free 35-6 shitkicking.
Those two combined with a game Thursday night and our big Labor Day Golf tournament this weekend has Ye Olde Chef looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow til the crack of noon.
