The guy playing Phil was unbelievably good.

I was extremely disappointed with Uncut Gems. I was never interested in Sandler"s character and the ending was horrible, a reflection of the fact the movie was too long.

I saw two couples walk out.

Same here. One of the more disappointing movies I've seen in ages.

Saw the other day that Adam Sandler will be starring in a basketball movie produced by LeBron James. Is it just me or does that seem backward?

Nah. It just means LeBron will be putting his money into it. I'd venture to say he's worth much more than Sandler now.

Reading the premise, looks like it's just following the formula of The Scout, but an NBA version where Sandler looks for his own Steve Nebraska, with a little bit of The Air Up There mixed in.

While there's more great niche writing about film than ever before, the quality of mainstream movie criticism has declined sharply over the last twenty years. It's mostly hype.

'Uncut Gems' is a good example of that. A not-bad movie oversold as an instant classic.

Grab a couple of Pauline Kael's books for cheap at the used bookstore and see how it ought to be done.

If you thought this year's Oscars were woke, the Academy is mainlining coffee, meth and No-Doz starting in 2022.

I initially thought it was pretty misguided, and I'm sure people will joke about casting Kevin Hart as Napoleon - but the department heads and behind the scenes crew - as an industry is just as, if not more lilly white and rife with nepotism and cronyism.

That’s a really good take on this.

As the board’s de-generate gambler, I really wanted to like Uncut Gems. Loved the start. Loved the ending. It was definitely too long. Garnett was great.

Now with a full year since I saw it, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood remains my favorite movie of all time. The attention to detail.

I didn’t think a movie would knock off The Right Stuff as my 1 and Casino as my 2. But it did.

The problem I had with Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is that like many period movies, its nostalgia presents the time as idyllic - a year after 1968? Seriously? I think back to the music of the time, and even the "upbeat songs" sound melancholy at best. Hip deep in Vietnam, the thrill of the moon landing is over, a nation still reeling and off-center from '68. Shoot, listenting to one of my pre-sets on the car radio on a trip (I was far away) and it kept bleeding into a Bread song. David Gates always sounded sad. Seals and Crofts songs as well.
