I'm still watching, but I miss the atmosphere of a full building. The replacement crowd noise doesn't come close, and I did a double take in the one game I saw that had simulated fans. Ugh.

Jerry Jones looked like he had a couple of MS girls locked in the closet at home.

Vick admitted that during his time with the Falcons, he put very little time into preparing for games. Jackson is nothing like Vick in that regard. He made great improvements from his first season to his second. He doesn't seem to be trying to get by just on his raw talent as Vick did.

Was it just me or were the games much shorter this week (perhaps due to no PI reviews?). That Dallas-LA game was done in 3 hours.

Take note of the markets that produced the best ratings.

Those anarchists up in the PNW still love their football.

It got drawn out at the end by the Dolphins passing to come back, and the Pats-Miami game still finished well under three hours. Having a running quarterback helps things move right along.

I HATE the fake crowd noise, fake fans, cardboard cutouts and all that.

Just play it as it is.

The best thing about sports is it's real. When my wife asks me why I like watching sports, I tell her when she watches Game of Thrones or Kingdom or whatever she's watching, someone already knows what's going to happen. When they start a game, NO ONE knows what's going to happen. You might think you know, and you might be right. But it's not predetermined (spare me, NBA conspiracy theorists). It's really happening.

So kill the fake stuff. Play it as it lies (as they say on the golf course). It is what it is.

Is it better with fans? Of course. But it's better with no fans than with fake fans.

Plus, I like the fact you can hear what the players and officials are saying better with no crowd noise, and that can be pretty cool. I'm thinking of that exchange between Medvedev and the officials at the U.S. Open, but also just what the players are shouting to each other during the course of play or saying during stoppages.

The refs work better without the chaos of a moment. Nobody cheering or booing. Like being in a practice.

I definitely think there's something to that. Not only better (I'm sure there were some blown calls, but that's inevitable) but quicker. Easier to hold their little confabs. Also, I only really watched two games, but in the Pats' game at least, there were no false starts, encroachments, illegal motions and other before the snap penalties. Perhaps because of the lack of full contact practice, more time was spent on drilling to avoid these unforced errors. Which again are often caused by crowd noise.

Small sample size, but as a Dallas fan I’m really down on McCarthy as coach.
