Nuclear power is great. Clean energy that lowers bills.... But after all these years there is still no where to put the spent rods. Huge, radioactive problem.

Not to speak for anybody, but there is something to the argument that our consumption-based economy has an effect on climate change and the environment. It's called (dusting off economics notebook) an external cost ... something that happens to a third party outside the supply and demand relationship. In this case, the "third party" is the environment.

That's not to say consumers can't — and haven't — demanded more environmentally-friendly products, such as things made from recycled materials or food produced in a way that reduces the carbon footprint.

But do those eco-friendly products help the environment as much as if we would simply consume less? That's a tough question to answer.

But it could make a small dent. Then another program could make another small dent. So on and so forth.

It’s Couch to 5K for the climate. You don’t tell somebody trying to lose weight, “well skipping desert isn’t a big enough change so go ahead and eat that cheesecake.” You encourage the small changes that lead to big results.

Yes, like traveling less. Or having a less global economy. Or living in smaller houses, not on hills that catch fire all the time.

One way to avoid the consequences of climate disaster is to move. Maybe some of the people who live in Houston and New Orleans or Miami should rethink those decisions.

Again, if want to put ideas on the table, put ideas on the table that are unpopular to liberals.

All those ideas have been on the table for a long time. Some have even tried to be implemented. The revisions to the national flood plain map, which would've put many coastal areas, including much of right here in Cape Cod (not my house!) inside flood danger and thus exponentially increase homeowners' insurance rates, died a quick and ugly death from bipartisan Congressional, state and local opposition. "Property values" is the core corruption of the American Dream. The idea that your property's value must be sustained even if it's underwater is frankly insane.

“Because it’s a US database map you’re looking at. Not gonna be recording Canada fires.”

I’m guessing this chirpy brat thinks “BLM” means something other than “Bureau of Land Management.”

I may have used a word other than “brat” in the original draft of this post.

What's an idea that would be "unpopular to liberals" that wouldn't also be unpopular to "conservatives"?
