Homered in his next at-bat, too, on the second pitch thrown by DeMarcus Evans in his major league debut. On Evans' third pitch, he hit Justin Upton in the head.

He'll probably be 39 if he heals and rehabs. Does he come back to Detroit for a last hurrah?

Interesting question. In general, Dodger Stadium had a higher HR rate from 1960-73, the span of time in which Mays played in the two parks (3.57% to 2.69%.)
Mays specifically had different results. Alert: Small Sample Size Factor upcoming. Mays hit 11 HR in 311 AB in Dodger Stadium, a 3.33% rate. At Candlestick, he hit 203 dingers in 3,524 AB. That's a 5.76% figure.

Stoneham was looking at moving the Giants to Minnesota, where they already owned the Triple-A team there. O’Malley decided on LA, and convinced Stoneham to move further west as well, both to make it more palatable travel-wise for the other teams, and to keep the rivalry going.

He goes to the best team that wants him. The only think he has left to get is more rings and more wins to add to his total

Rumors rising fast that Gardenhire may be out -- maybe "health related."

Bad hire. He’s failed twice — he hasn’t come close to succeeding.

I don't want to be too snotty, but when they announced he was retiring immediately, my response was "how can they tell?"

Seriously, he was your prototypical caretaker manager for a teardown: a grizzled ole veteran who could spew blather about the olden days, cash paychecks and soak up 297 losses in 3 years.

He was basically Ralph Houk 2.0. Now the question is whether Avila hires someone who can figure out how to assemble a competitive team with the pieces he's got. Pitchers? Maybe. But there's no Trammell-Whitaker-Gibson-Parrish in the system this time.

    Omar?

Or go with another crusty ole caretaker type with the realization they're still gonna really suck for a couple seasons?
