I was hyping Carl Palmer to a drummer friend who bowed at feet of Buddy Rich. I told him what Palmer could do with his array of percussion. My friend said, "It's not gymnastics." Then he saw Palmer and admitted to being very impressed.

A few years ago at Yoshi's jazz club in Oakland, we saw a guy play an upright piano while while walking around the the instrument. It blew me away that he could play it backward. I couldn't type if the keyboard was reversed.

It's kind of obscure, but if you can find a copy of Shel Silverstein's album "Freaking at the Freaker's Ball", the band backing him is Dr. Hook. They were kinda his house band. He wrote "Cover of the Rolling Stone" and "Sylvia's Mother for them. Anyhow, it's a raucous bunch of guys having fun in the studio. Title track and "I got stoned and I missed it" are great.

He also wrote ""A Boy Named Sue".

"I Got Stoned and I Missed It"

Oh yes boys play it sweet for me.

I was sittin' in my basement I'd just rolled myself a taste of
Somethin' green and gold and glorious to get me through the day
When my friend yells through my transom "grab your coat an' get your hat son,
There's a nut down on the corner givin' dollar bills away"

But I sat around a bit and then I had another hit
And then I rolled myself a bomber thought about my momma
Looked around fooled around played around while and then
I got stoned and I missed it I got stoned and I missed it
I got stoned and it rolled right by
I got stoned and I missed it I got stoned and I missed it I got stoned oh me oh my

It took seven months of urgin' just to get the local virgin
With the sweet face up to my place to fool around a bit
And next day she woke up rosy and she snuggled up so cosy
But when she asked me how I liked it Lord it hurt me to admit
I got stoned and I missed it...

    [ fiddle ]
I ain't makin' no excuses for so many things I uses
Just to brighten my relationships and sweeten up my day
But when my earthly race is over and I'm ready for the clover
And they ask me how my life has been I guess I have to say
I was stoned and I missed it...

Turns out I do have a Dr. Hook album, a greatest hits release.

They were a lot of fun, in a wry drunken sort of way. Saw them twice, once in a tiny club while they were big. It was a good time.

I was doing an album inventory, organization and purge this weekend.

The Ikea Expedit shelves are ok for storage, but I want something I can flip through, you know?

    Might do a build.

I hadn't seen that one. Ray Sawyer was the front man in the eyepatch. 1975.

I saw Cheech and Chong live in the same little club in Atlanta, the Great Southeast Music Hall. Place seated maybe 500 people. The stage was on about a three foot riser.

They crawled on the floor and did this bit, sniffing assholes. LMAO.

Tempting as hell... but there are already so many great pressings of Aja out there, I'm not sure the upgrade would be worth it on my system.

Funny - I was reading through this thread and stumbled across this.

My vinyl copy of "Ready, Sex, Go" arrived in the mail today. Sounds great.
