That some teams weren’t doing anything extra. There was smoothie envy.

I spent years working in junior hockey and it didn't take me long to realize not all franchises were created equal and it had nothing to do with resources, it was all about want to

There was a Nevin thread on Facebook. Apparently, he had dementia. Remarkable person. The former Kings PR guy contributed to that thread, saying Nevin was the nicest ever. He always respectfully turned down interview requests and told the PR guy to give it to one of the younger players.
I covered him when he was on the Kings and he was a soft-talking spokesman for the team who didn't really want to be. Nevi took young defenseman Dave Hutchison under his wing and often answered for Hutch's goofs, which were many. After a game, you'd ask Hutchison about something and he would say, "I don't know, go ask Nevi."
    RIP, Nevi.

You must have interviewed Mike Murphy a time or two in those days

Of course. I think we've talked about this before. The Kings had some really fantastic guys in their early year. First I remembered were Dan Maloney and Terry Harper. Then Nevin, Bob Murdoch and Murphy. Rogie Vachon was a terrific person as well as a goalie. His wife Nicole would call me to thank me for some of the stories I wrote.

When Murphy coached the Leafs in 97-98 they were in Ottawa one Saturday night. My buddy who was 23 or so at the time ran into Murphy at Maxwell’s, a place where my buddy had had success. They chatted for a minute or two before Murphy finally said “why the hell do you want to be standing at the bar talking to me? Go over there and get laid!”

A team man if there ever was one.

Murph is one of the best people I have met in the hockey business.

I started following hockey and the Kings in 1973-74 when Murphy was on the Off Broadway Line with former Rangers Gene Carr and Tom Williams. The first jersey I bought was Murphy. Most people had Marcel Dionne or Rogie Vachon but I liked how Murphy played.

I'm familiar with Binky. She did Ducks sideline a few years ago. So, essentially PR for the team. They hired her because she looked like a duck -- quack quack. For you to use her as proof is pathetic. What is your definition of "always." Also, JC, you never offered anything in the way of reasons for how Simmer and Maroon aren't similar. All you presented was a PR story.
