It's not that Trump is terrible at politics, it's that he's a one-trick pony. Blatant appeals to white racism have been an electoral winner since oh, 1789 or so. But this one trick doesn't mean shit to a virus. Trump is irrelevant to the dominant issue of the day. He's also terrible at governing, and for an incumbent, governing IS politics.

    Today it's at 27,772.

Trump lost the 2016 election by almost three million votes, but had narrow margins of victory in four key states where either Clinton failed to seal the deal or Gary Johnson siphoned off just enough Democrats to screw it up. He won Michigan (10,704), Wisconsin (22,748), Pennsylvania (44,292) and Florida (112,911) by a cumulative 200,000 additional votes, or 0.0015 percent of the total ballots cast (around 131 million).

Trump's base is vocal and in pockets of the country where he can counter losses in California and New York, but they're still vastly outnumbered. Even then, he's bungled 2020 so badly that even Georgia could be in play, let alone a half dozen other places he won handily four years ago.

Biden needs to stay upright and Democrats need to press the question, "are you better off today than you were a year ago?"

I wouldn't be surprised if that was Twitchy's intent at the first debate. Spread the bug and roll the dice.

    That’s my most conspiratorial belief.

You can add the Heroes Act to the George Floyd act and background checks collecting dust on Mitch McConnell’s desk. Meanwhile the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett goes full speed ahead. If Barrett is as wonderful a person as she is reputed to be, you might think she would be uncomfortable with the way her nomination is being rushed, against the wishes of RBG, and with so many people having caught COVID-19 at her announcement ceremony. Somehow I don’t think she objects.

Another Pyrrhic victory for Mitch. Does he seriously think Biden and a Democratic Senate will stand by and let the Court overthrow gay marriage, Roe v. Wade and the ACA? Do they not think voters will know who put the judges on the Court to do those very unpopular things. The Democrats will pack the court in response and campaign on saving American freedom and health.
