Yes and no. I agree with that in concept, but Columbus Day is barely a holiday in the south. Government buildings closed, maybe some banks, stores have an excuse for a sale. That's about it here.

Alabama does have "Fraternal Day" on that same date, which rolls up Columbus Day, Indigenous People's Day, and Fraternal Day, a failed holiday attempt from 1915 San Francisco. It commemorates fraternal organizations like the Masons, Veteran's groups, and other such.

Bottom line is that Alabama does not celebrate Columbus Day to speak of, probably because of a low proportion of Italian descended citizens, but does find space on the calendar for three Confederate related holidays.

He's been talking about the amazing new Trump/Republican health plan since before the 2016 election. It never happened. No such plan was ever advanced and put to a vote. I think that killing Obamacare without offering anything to replace it was a primary reason that McCain gave the R's ACA repeal the thumbs down.

 

I always thought O_T left on his own. Oh well, I kinda' liked the guy when he wasn't talking politics.
