NFL Week 6 thread: Godspeed, Sneeze Achiu

I still can't figure out if the Titans are good, or just living a charmed life that's going to equal out eventually.
Take out the Buffalo win, and four of their five games have been decided in the last two minutes or overtime.
Winning close games is the difference between great seasons and awful ones in this league (for comparison's sake, the Chargers are 1-4 and have played five games that were ultimately settled in the last two minutes), but it wouldn't surprise me if we look up in a few weeks and they're 6-3 and we're wondering what's happened to them. It's part of living on the edge.

The Seahawks are not far from that, either. I think they are good, but three of their five wins essentially came down to the last play. They'll still finish 13-3, though, because their schedule is Charmin soft.

 

Never said I don't believe in them. Miles difference between that and not wearing one.

 

That's been Seattle's MO for the last three seasons. There's a reason good teams look lucky and losers look unlucky. In the five or six plays that determine most NFL games, the winners make plays and the losers don't. PS: Tampa Bay looked invincible demolishing Green Bay today. I know and you know they aren't that good. But they're 4-2.

 

The first interception was a killer mistake by Mayfield. That one was just a terrible read on his part. The second one was more of an aggressive mistake on a play that was breaking down. The Steelers mostly took away the run and put great pressure on Mayfield, so there was plenty of blame to go around for the Browns offensively today.

I also wonder just how much the rib injury limited Mayfield. It looked like he couldn't get much zip on some of his throws and he took a beating.

That defense really is bad if Garrett isn't dominating, and the Steelers handled him most of the game today. You are right that Pittsburgh has been sticking mostly to short passes and the Browns jumped on that by playing aggressively in the secondary early. That is also what got them burned on the touchdown pass to Washington.

I imagine there will be more shots down the field as teams respond to the short passing game the way the Browns did.

 

Mayfield hasn’t even played three full seasons and he’s on his fourth head coach.

They looked like they were turning the corner after his rookie season, then they hire Kitchens and sign OBJ, who looks to be a case of subtraction by addition.

Mayfield isn’t great, but another team will give him a shot.

And the Browns were a shitshow before he got there. He was actually solving the problem for 10 or so games in 2018, but then the Browns remembered they are the Browns.

 

The Titans may have taken a big hit on their offensive line today, too. There is a report that his knee injury is a torn ACL, though the MRI isn't until Monday.

The Steelers and Titans both go into next week's game in Tennessee undefeated, but I'm not that sure of either of them. I still think the Ravens and Chiefs are better.

 

Oh, no doubt the good teams make their own luck. That's how the Patriots have been so good for so long. Even if they got down, they just kept grinding and took advantage of every mistake by their opponent. After a while, it was almost like taking the field with a 10-point lead.
Maybe Vrabel has figured out how to do that, and how to bring that mindset to Tennessee, faster and better than we've given him credit for.

With Seattle, it's weird. They'll look really, really good for a few weeks, but mostly just above average for the majority of the season. Then you look up at the end of every season and they're in the Divisional round and you're never quite sure how they got there.

On the Seahawks, Russell Wilson. I'm probably a little biased, but he's basically carrying that offense. Imagine if the defense progresses to more than making the occasional key stop. And the guess here is that it will.

The Titans are good. Solid defense and a simple offense spearheaded by a sledgehammer running back. "Simple" is not a pejorative ... but a lot of running the ball, moving the chains and not making too many dumb mistakes takes a lot of six-dimensional chess feel out of what some have tried to overcomplicate.

Green Bay will be fine. Aaron Rodgers looked human, for once. I have serious doubts that the Buccaneers cracked some sort of code that the rest of the league will see.

 

Only if the rest of the league can clone David. He was a monster in that game.

 

Metcalf is a stud and Lockett is really good, too.

Seattle is a damn good team.
