The fact that Jamie Harrison is sending me numerous daily fundraising emails after his massive haul is insulting.

 

Naive of me to have hoped one of the Trumpists had crossed over. But it does appear that the CJ did the right thing. Once Amy Covid Barrett joins the fray, he won't be so inclined.

Getting no fewer than a dozen e-mails a day, all of them pleading for money, made me unsubscribe. Couldn’t take it any longer.

 

The key stat is how many of 'em didn't vote once last time. We dunno that.

 

These people haven't read history, but it doesn't have to work for it to be understood as a plot to overthrow the government.

 

True, but I doubt it's 30 million brand new voters. Turnout has been in the mid-50 percent range since 2004, and adding 30 million new voters to that from the 2016 total of about 139 million would spike it up close to 70 percent. That seems unlikely (even with an upward trend the last four election cycles we haven't been above 60 percent since 1968), so in theory it should all even out in the end, right?
If it does spike that high, it's such an anomaly that it sets off some alarm bells. Like the kid who jumps from 17 to 30 on his ACT score.

All the measures pollsters use to measure voter enthusiasm are off the charts, and record high turnouts have taken place in primaries around the country even after it was clear it was Biden vs. Trump. It's entirely possible turnout could be over 150 million (it was 135 million in 2016). Throughout history, turnout has surged in various presidential elections, then coasted on a plateau, then surged again and so on. One example. Truman-Dewey in 1948 had total turnout of about 49 million. Eisenhower-Stevenson in '52 was over 60 million. That's almost a 25 percent increase.
