Except we used to live in a world where that was how it was set up. And then some librul wrote the Jungle and workers started getting pissed they were losing limbs. And then people started getting mad their loved ones died from eating a burger. But libertarians conveniently forget all of that.

Of course, it can be hard to make choices if the food kills you.
Ah, the blessed free market and deregulation.
Those are the people who deserve to fly in an airline that has no safety protocols and has to make an emergency (safe) landing after a flight harrowing enough to convince the libertarians of their folly.

I can't speak for what libertarians want the way someone else did, because the term means about a zillion different things depending on who you are talking to. ... including the cartoon people you all have created in your heads. .. .but what you are describing is an anarchist to me, not a libertarian.

My understanding is that there are people who believe you should be unregulated in how you live you life UNTIL you pose a threat to others. Which is why I can find you plenty of people who describe themselves as libertarians who don't think freedom equates to some right to walk around infecting others. They don't believe people should be free to walk around stabbing or shooting others, either. If you believe that, it would make you an anarchist.

Thank God for those airline regulations ... otherwise they'd be sending those $150 million (plus) planes off with the wings fastened with duck tape.

You're sarcasm has for sure proven the point that a for-profit company would never, ever compromise safety to save a buck, so we might as well not regulate them at all.

There is absolutely no middle ground on this topic at all.

Libertarianism is fun - until the bears show up in the middle of town.

Have you ever run a business?

If so, did you do things that would harm your customers to "save a buck," or was it better for your business to bare expenses that would ensure customers kept coming back and buying things from you (never mind the civil liability you would risk by not taking reasonable care to ensure safety)?

Were your customers all mindless idiots who didn't think for themselves about whether what you were selling met any standards and just took whatever you gave them at whatever price you dictated, even if they risked death by doing so?

How many examples of companies cutting corners will it take for you to concede that companies do occasionally cut corners for the sake of increased profit in spite of a corresponding increase in risk?

Mr. Quant and Moderator Ragu appear to speak with the same “mind.”

Are you trying to wake me up to the fact that there are dishonest and disreputable people in the world who do negligent things?

    Imagine that.

Here's another news flash: The FAA does a way more costly and inefficient job of trying to prevent against that kind of behavior than the self regulation that would occur if people were left to feel responsible for their own well being.

Few people are getting on an airplane unless they are reasonably sure it is safe.
