Democrats in power were still doing things to try to slow the spread, though. They did both - worked to combat the virus and castigated Trump for his failures.

The entire west coast banded together to share PPE and resources. The Mid-Atlantic did the same. The strictest gathering restrictions and closures happened in states with Democratic leadership.

So it's not like the Dems sat on their hands and just mocked Trump.

Update on my niece from my sister. She's now sick, very sick. 101 fever, hard cough. Very very weak. Of course she's in isolation so there's nothing the family can do but wait.
They sent doctors through the dorms yesterday and told her she's not on a "hospitalization track".... yet.
She's now about halfway through what hopefully should be the symptomatic period. Hopefully just a few more days, but who knows.

I wish the best for your niece, Starman.

The way I've heard it described by a family member is that even a hot shower is painful. It's like all the nerve endings are jacked up.

I'm no expert but not only doesn't that sound like she's on the hospitalization track, it sounds like she's pulled into the station. What the hell is the school thinking?

I'm just dealing with the rhetoric ... this dude went bankrupt doing that! A craps table, a blackjack pit, a bank of slot machines ... they're just like any old piece of business equipment. You borrow some money, buy you some real estate, staff 'em up and then let 'er rip. If you borrowed too much, or at the wrong rate, or the world turns in a funny way ... your ass is thrilled to get bailed out by bankruptcy law.

I'd gladly address Trump's shortcomings as a businessperson, but that seems like a conversation for another thread. But the idea that we shouldn't be surprised he's been a mess handling the pandemic (stipulated arguendo) given that he went bankrupt running a casino ... that's like saying, "Well, of course he's a racist. Guy couldn't even make his first marriage work!" One of these things does not really speak to the other.

All my best wishes, @Starman. I'm sure she'll turn the corner in short order.

Same. I'd be raising hell if it were my kid.

Understood, but at the same time he projects himself as an incredibly savvy guy and he was an unmitigated failure at a time when the business in AC was doing pretty well

Trump went bankrupt running the Trump Taj Mahal because he

    1. bought a white elephant of a casino which was so expensive and payment heavy that he was buying it after it had already gone bust. It cost $1.2 B when it was built and he paid $500 M.

    2. proceeded to spend a huge amount on remodeling it to the Trump preferred opulence, making it even more difficult to make enough profit to meet the payments.

    3. did so in an already saturated AC market where, to repeat myself, that casino had already gone bust once. It eventually sold for four cents on the dollar, and even then it went bust again on Carl Icahn.
