You wanna make the picking of Supreme Court Justices non-political:

    1. Add four judges to get to 13
    2. Every seat gets assigned a number to align with the Circuit Courts
    3. When there is an opening on the Supreme Court, the replacement comes from that assigned Circuit Court and it goes to the most-experienced (not oldest) judge in that circuit.

If you went by that, you would have, waiting:

    1 Sandra Lynch (Clinton), 74
    2 Jose Cabranes (Clinton), 79
3 Theodore McKee, Black (Clinton), 73
    4 J. Harvie Wilkinson, (Reagan), 76
    5 Edith Jones (Reagan), 71
    6 R. Guy Cole (Clinton), 69
    7 Joel Flaum (Reagan), 83
    8 James Loken (Bush I), 80
    9 Sidney Thomas (Clinton), 67
10 Mary Beck Briscoe (Clinton), 73
    11 Charles Wilson (Clinton), 66
    12 (DC) Karen Henderson (Bush I), 76
13 (Fed) Pauline Newman (Reagan), 93!

One in three chance if there's an opening it would be a woman, essentially 50/50 to be Republican or Democrat

And if you advanced the last four to take the new open seats, waiting in the wings would be:

    10 Carlos Lucero (Clinton, 79
11 William Pryor (Bush II), 58
    12 Judith Rogers (Clinton, 81
    13 Alan Lourie (Bush I), 85

And it's totally luck of the draw. had this been in effect, for example, the first circuit court nominee would have been Juan Torruella, but whose death was announced while I was typing this post and moved Lynch into the top spot for the first circuit.

She’s a licensed lawyer who has tried cases and argued appeals, and she understands how good government is supposed to work.

JFC. Seriously. We have just witnessed the four most anti-democracy years in my lifetime. The apparatus of our government that makes it run from day to day has been decimated. There are unqualified people in big positions all over this administration. There are way too many acting heads of departments who answer only Trump and to no one else. The president has sucked up to dictators all over the world while alienating our allies. He has diminished NATO. He has ignored a pandemic that is killing Americans and wrecking people, and has no interest in helping anyone. And you think that what the Democrats do is going to put the country at risk? What the f*** is wrong with you?

Well said. Add in that most of the same Republicans who have enabled Trump's reign of error will still be there shoving a stick through the spokes every chance they get.

It ain't their job to do anything but get re-elected if they want to.

I would suggest Bo Jackson. If Tommy Tuberville can crash the Senate, Bo Jackson can score a SCOTUS seat.

His first concurring opinion would be two words. Would he even need clerks?
