They were producers. Bob Stewart created most of their biggest hits.

Peaked too young, and wasn't able to repeat his first success.

    Marc Summers / Double Dare?

He was more talk show/entertainment host ala Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin, no?

That show had everything. True 80s excess. New cars. Vacations. Summer Bartholomew in a swimsuit. The confident, dashing Jim Perry. Some trivia -- above Press Your Luck but not at the level of Jeopardy!

There was also the level of poker-like gambling within the game as well. Perry would "bribe" the contestants if they were ahead. "Can I buy... 20 points... but I'll give you... one... thousand dollars?"

Shows like 'House Party' and 'People are Funny' had lots of audience game play and prize elements.

Not surprising. The producer, John Guedel, also created 'You Bet Your Life.'

Perhaps we should consider Don Francisco, then. Sabado Gigante lived up to its name in so many ways.d

I'd usually be screaming at players who would turn down Perry's bribes. Take the money! Take the trip! Fill your pockets, dammit! If you were smart enough to be in the lead, you're smart enough to probably get it back with the easy questions. And if you don't, well, you're taking home something better than an Oster blender.
